England Search for FIFA 2026 Bases Amid Fears of Missing Out On First-Choice Site to the Dutch.

The Football Association has dispatched scouts to the United States this week to evaluate potential facilities for the forthcoming global finals, amid growing worries that their first-choice location could be taken by the Dutch national team.

Draw Complexities Change Arrangements

Head coach Thomas Tuchel had previously cleared an FA proposal for England to set up camp in Kansas after a pre-tournament training camp in Fort Lauderdale. Yet, following the recent tournament draw, there are now concerns that the Netherlands, who have their group stage matches in Kansas, will be awarded priority on the desired facility at Sporting Kansas City—a state-of-the-art centre used by US Soccer.

The world governing body allocates training camps according to geography and world rankings if there is competition, with the draw potentially pitting the FA in competition with the Netherlands and Argentina for sites in the tournament's south-central region.

Considering Other Sites

With England's group stage matches scheduled to take place in Dallas, Boston, and New Jersey, the FA is now reportedly exploring alternative options on the eastern seaboard. The association started its search for training camps at the beginning of the year, with Tuchel and technical director John McDermott visiting possible sites during the Club World Cup last summer.

Despite this advanced planning, there was always an understanding that the final tournament draw could significantly alter their logistical arrangements.

Later Round Logistics Plans

The Three Lions face the eighth most arduous group stage draw in terms of mileage. Topping Group L would set England on track for a last-32 game in Atlanta, then a possible round of 16 match in Mexico City.

  • Major Change: The FA may opt to choose to move between venues for the knockout stages if England progress, a major shift from its usual practice of having a fixed tournament base.
  • FIFA Recommendation: FIFA is believed to be actively encouraging such a itinerant approach for the vast 2026 tournament.

Once the training base is confirmed, the FA will focus on organizing two pre-tournament matches in Florida at the beginning of June.
